National Origin Discrimination
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination based on one’s national origin. In the workplace it does not matter where someone is born. Being born from another country or by parents from another country does not have any effect on how you perform your work duties. Accordingly, discrimination based on this is protected and not tolerated. Even after September 11, 2001, misguided or misdirected discrimination is not allowed and those of Middle Eastern descent are protected under the law.
An employer cannot discriminate against an employee for his or affiliation with a particular religious or ethnic group. An employer or coworkers cannot discriminate because of one’s physical, cultural or linguistic characteristics. A woman who wears a head scarf has just as much of a right to work in a discriminatory free work environment as someone who does not wear one.
